Description
When viewing this winter oil painting, it is hard to believe that my husband and I had a picnic on the raised stone of the wall in the right foreground (summer, of course)! This rustic mill is situated in Babcock State Park in the southeastern part of West Virginia.
Except during the winter, flour is ground in the mill each Saturday for tourists, and sold in paper bags printed with recipes for Sweeten’ Corn Pone, Hush Puppies, and Buckwheat Cakes!
I was impressed with the ruggedness of Glade Creek. The oil painting contrasts the massive boulders along the mill race with powder puffs of snow on the smallest twig.
May the winter lace of tree shadows in the oil painting and the snow ladened evergreen by the water’s edge bring the peace of yesteryear into your home.
